Raleigh Elementary Chosen as Third Congressional District for the PTV Model School Program.

Last fall, Raleigh Elementary School in Smith County participated in the Promote the Vote program sponsored by Mississippi Secretary of State, Delbert Hosemann. PTV is a program designed to encourage students to become active in politics and government and to become responsible citizens.

PTV sponsored several contests after its mock elections were held.  One of the contests was for a Model School Program.  Raleigh Elementary was very pleased to learn recently that it was chosen as the winner in the Third Congressional District for the PTV Model School Program.

On March 1, RES teachers, Mrs. Gigi Jones, Mrs. Stephanie Wedgeworth, RES principal Mrs. Larecia Wedgeworth, and Smith County Superintendent of Education Mr. Nick Hillman, traveled to the state Capitol in Jackson to accept an award for this achievement. Nine student representatives were chosen to represent the student body. They are:  Ramsey Thornton, Makala McAlpin, Rayce Jones, Tyler Harvel, Anna Frances Kelly, Lantavious Johnson, Chloe Pickens, Kenneth Noblin, Jr., and Madison Tanner.

RES is very proud of its students and faculty for all of their hard work during the mock election last fall.
